VOLVO Product Plate - 1961 to 1966
The product plate and body number plates are both located in the engine compartment.
The type starts with 5 numbers, followed by a letter or a number. The 7th digit is a letter but it is not always present. The table below shows 2 examples.

Please refer to the production tables for each model and year. The production identification letter is not always present on the identification plate. If the letter is not present, the year of the car can be determined with the chassis number (Ch. Nr.) by looking up it the production tables.
Chassis Number (Ch. Nr)
A consecutive number assigned to each chassis produced. Each chassis style (2 doors, 4 doors and wagon) have a unique set of number. The year can be determined with the chassis number (Ch. Nr.) by looking up it the production tables.
The upholstery code identifies the style, colors and materials covering the interior of the car. The code is different for 2-door, 4-door and station wagon models. The materials and colors changed almost every year and therefore many codes exists for the same car. For example there are 7 different upholstery codes just for the 1963 120 4 door.
